I’m not sure when we’ll get back to Italy, but I sure enjoy looking at photos from past visits. A friend is there now, which caused me to think about posting this.
I must admit I’m always surprised to see bikes that have locks on them, but that are locked to … well … nothing, aside from the bike itself! Do that in some places and the bike would be stolen in a heartbeat: thieves can easily break that chain with the right equipment!
While we travel we do a lot of walking. Rarely do we use public transportation in cities, in fact. When you walk you see so much that you would miss if you went faster. Besides, we like to walk! This was spotted while in Florence. I didn’t know the name Renato Carosone, but I had to snap a photo.
Renato Carosone, 8.28.16
Well of course I had to look him up. And then I had to listen to this song!
First I found this, but you can’t see it on my page, you have to go to YouTube.
Here he is in 1998:
Rough translation:
You wear pants with a logo on the back and a little hat has its visor pointed up You go cruising thru Toledo like a gangster, looking for attention.
You want to be like an American, mericano, mericano… Listen to me, how can you do that? You want to live in (high) fashion, but if you drink whisky and soda and then you have a long hangover You dance rock and roll You play baseball but who gives you the money for your Camels? Your momma’s purse! You want to be like an American mericano, mericano … but you were born in Italy! Listen to me, there’s nothing you can do okay, Napolitan! You want to be like an American, You want to be like an American! Who can people that love you understand you if you speak half American? When you make love under the moon, how come you say “I love you”? You want to be like an American, mericano, mericano
This is certainly not an image I would print, but that doesn’t mean I won’t share it! This was from a very special evening in Florence, when Dan and I walked up to the Piazzale Michelangelo. I had no idea what it would be like, and this crowd was something else! Shortly after this photo, a man who was singing behind all of us managed to get everyone’s attention and soon many turned around, so of us standing, facing him, and singing along. What a fun memory!
