Daily Flora

Yesterday I took a nice long walk (over seven miles when I arrived home) and visited the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden. I’d not been in quite some time. While the roses aren’t exactly at their prime at the moment, it was lovely to be there. When I ran across the Loeta Liggett rose it brought back memories: I was on a neighborhood walk many years ago and was shooting some miniature roses in front of a house. A man came out and started up a conversation. Turned out he created a number of new roses, had a lot to do with the starting of the Heritage Rose Garden, and had a huge plot of land behind his house where he worked on other plants. He even had me try a leaf of lettuce if I recall correctly. His name is Tom Liggett, creator of this rose named after his wife.
