Beauty For a Day

I didn’t realize that the daylily’s botanical name meant “beauty for a day” until just now. When I’d read earlier that most blooms last only for a day I was skeptical, but did at least understand why its common name was daylily. Now reading about the meaning of its botanical name I like it even more! I know that doesn’t make sense … funny how that can go with me. It’s entirely illogical. But then so am I.

From all I’m reading now this is a flower I should grow: it tolerates all sorts of soil and can tolerate pollution as well. Or so wikipedia promises.

Hemerocallis (I), 6.14.19
