Dieteria canescens, 10.15.21
(I’m going over 2021 images again … so much to look at and such memories! This is from our trip to Zion National Park.)

the way I see the world
My walk today was a shortish one, but it took a while because flowers kept causing me to stop. I try to go two miles before stopping. I didn’t even make it to one mile when I saw this.
The garden is full of wildflowers and native plants, although I’m not sure everything there was native, though it does boast a certified wildflower sign if I’m remembering correctly. (I’ll have to return and check … it was some sort of certified garden sign in any case.)
This wildflower, with the common name elegant clarkia, comes in several bright colors and is definitely eye-catching. Some of the flowers are frillier than this — sort of like a miniature peony look, really, and I wonder if the other common name, mountain garland, refers to that one. Stay tuned for at least one image of that … eventually. For now, though, a first shot post must obviously be the first shot of the day. And this is it.
After an exhausting week of Aladdin rehearsals and shows, today is a day off. Thankfully Dan suggested we go on a little outing to a nearby county park and I’m so glad he did. I loved the fresh air, and I definitely needed the walk.
Here is my first shot of the day. I know this is lupine, and I”m guessing it might be Lupinus bicolor, but I’m not great at narrowing things down sometimes. No matter what, the field of them was lovely.
It seems only fitting to post some California poppies. These are from last year (you can see the date below). While some people are driving miles and miles to see amazing flowers, these were a walk away from my home. No, there weren’t as many as you’d find elsewhere, but I didn’t have to get in a car!
I knew today was a day “all mine” (until I play for the Opera San Jose performance of Streetcar tonight, that is), so I decided to walk to my two favorite rose gardens. I began by heading to the San Jose Heritage Rose Garden. The plant below is my first shot, and these tiny things (you can’t tell, but they are quite small!) can be found along the Guadalupe trail. I’ve yet to figure out what they are. Maybe Vicia cracca (bird vetch), but I’m not sure if that flower is as tiny as these. Surely it’s some sort of vetch, though.
When I arrived at the first rose garden I was not at all disappointed … until after a few shots my camera informed me that my battery was dead! I had forgotten to switch out batteries. So home I went, and I’ll have to return to the Heritage Garden and get in the visit the Municipal Rose Garden another day.
