From Yesterday’s Walk
Succulents are favorite subjects of mine. Both yesterday and today I had some fun with them. The weather was so perfect, and there are some very lovely plants nearby.

Succulents
… and yes, there is still beauty.
Every time I see succulents I think of our wonderful daughter Kelsey. She taught me to see them with different eyes, as I used to dislike them — probably only because I thought my mother didn’t care for them! The crazy thing is that I don’t even know that is how she felt for sure. I could very well have only made that assumption. Funny how that parental thing can go sometimes. But visiting Kelsey one year we saw them in San Diego and she pointed out how amazing they were (and are). Of course she was (and is) right! And I was hooked.
This particular shot is actually from last Thanksgiving weekend, and I made it with Kelsey standing right next to me. I look forward to seeing her and Mel very soon. We all need lots of very good hugs. We will get them.

Succulents
I love them. They are so amazingly beautiful. They are so varied. And they behave much better for the camera when it’s windy!
You probably can’t tell from this image, but these little things are extremely tiny. Trust me. I was down in the dirt shooting them when someone walked by.
Yep, by now I’m probably known as the crazy camera lady. I’m sure of it!

Heigh Ho, Heigh Ho
This week is full of the sound of music (so sorry … I had to go there!): I am playing a week-long run of The Sound of Music and I continue to teach my private students as well. Today is normally my weekend, but due to canceling students for tomorrow’s full day of rehearsals for the shows I am teaching a few today. It’s possible walks won’t be as long or plentiful. But today I am now heading out with the camera to see what I might find. It’s a bit overcast at the moment: good for some macro work, I hope!
This is from one of last week’s walks. It looked like a bit of a succulent forest to me.

First Shot
On yesterday’s camera-free walk I spotted two of the most exquisite Kalanchoe thyrsiflora I’ve ever seen. I knew immediately I’d be walking back for a visit today, when I was able to bring a camera along. This is the first shot … I’m hoping for more, and better, but time will tell. They are best seen live and in person, I think.

It’s past time for my walk. I need it greatly after the Harry Potter filled weekend. (Sitting that long in those chairs is killer on the back!)
I’ll leave you with these succulents. I wish I knew what they are … perhaps Echeveria? Or Graptoveria? Dunno!

My Weekend
Mondays are, for me, the weekend. I very rarely have rehearsals on a Monday, and I only teach on Mondays when I have to cancel some other time during the week (sadly that’s happened more this year than before and I do miss my one “weekend” day, but I miss my students more and like to give them the reschedule opportunity). Today, though, is all mine and I look forward to a good walk, followed by a few errands. It’s possible the wind won’t allow for a lot of photography, and there’s even talk of rain, but if it’s only slightly breezy and if the rain can hold off I can always find some sturdy succulents and work with them. I will also continue my quest for fall color. It is, after all, that season … and my favorite time of year!
