Two Years Ago Today

I was thinking about walking to a rose garden today, but decided that it really wasn’t a good idea at the moment. Turns out that two years ago I had this idea as well … and went. This is the first rose I shot at the Heritage Rose Garden in San Jose. I do miss my very long walks, but I can’t seem to get myself to go as far right now.

Three Creeks Trail

It’s been a long time coming, but San José’s Three Creeks Trail is now open. I’ve walked it twice now, and it’s a nice, very short little walk.

Via Wikipedia:

The trail was previously a Union Pacific railway line as part of the Willow Glen Spur of the San Jose Branch line.”

I very much remember that train whistle blowing.

At one spot there is a lovely iris garden. Here is the sign about the garden, but what it doesn’t tell you is that the garden had been in our area prior to this trail being put in. At some point the large plot of land was sold and a number of large homes went in, so seeing that these iris are now on the trail is a wonderful thing!

Below is my first shot from today’s walk. It was made before I remembered I was wearing my very dark sunglasses. So it goes. it’s not exactly what I wanted, but it’ll do!

Looking Through January 2016

I’m nearing the end of January 2016 photos. I started with December 2016 and thought I’d move backwards but, alas, I was distracted:  I went to January to look for some photos of some friends and so much for my backwards plan. Funny how that goes.

I found this shot at the end and it makes me smile. It also made me look up whether I should use an apostrophe with O when making it plural. I thought not, but it looked so wrong without it. Turns out, according to what I read, I can go either way: it’s actually not necessary (and some will hate it), but to distinguish it from Os as in the operating system or the symbol for osmium I read that it is sometimes used. Please correct me if I’m mistaken because I don’t like to get things like this wrong!

Ten Miles and Roses!

I had a lovely ten mile walk today. My first goal (about four miles in) was to get to the San Jose Heritage Rose Garden since I hadn’t been in a while. I’m never sure what I’ll find there: some of the plants only bloom once a year, after all. While many were past their prime, there were some that were quite lovely. Here is the first rose shot of the day. (Not my “First Shot” as that was of a passion fruit: I hadn’t seen one before and wanted to get a record shot, but it isn’t good enough to share here.)
