Mirrorless Move

I have now moved entirely to mirrorless cameras. I just find them more comfortable for me , what with my hands getting tired of even the lightweight camera I was using. Because of this I have that lightweight camera, my Canon Rebel SL2 available for sale, along with a 60mm f2.8 macro lens and 24 mm f2.8 lens. The majority of images I post here have been from that sweet camera! I haven’t a clue if anyone will have any interest in this equipment, but I do hope I can get them to a nice home somehow! Unfortunately the view finder has some sort of dust in it that, despite my trying to clean it, seems to stubbornly stay there. This isn’t what comes out in an image, but merely seen through the viewfinder. Still some might find it annoying and I must be honest about the camera. I could send it in to Canon to have it cleaned, but I honestly am not interested in spending the money, considering what someone might offer me for the camera and lenses and the fact that it doesn’t affect the images at all. If you’re interested in purchasing these, do let me know!

And now it’s time to get used to a new camera! I purchased a Fujifilm X-E4. This will now be my extremely light travel camera. It will not, in the long run, be used all that much for macro work (I will be using my 100mm macro with the Canon EOS R), but I did take it out on my walk today and the results with this image aren’t bad! (Truth is I wasn’t finding all that much to shoot in the neighborhood … February isn’t as full of flowers as some months!) Jade flowers are just lovely, don’t you think?

More about the Camera & Lens

Since I have a bit of time … here is a photo I shot mostly to see how well I could focus. Then I wondered what would happen if I cropped the image. So you see the original and then a cropped version and finally a real close-up of Mr. Ant. I normally don’t share images of a higher quality (you can buy a print for that!), but in this case I am, since I want to show things in better detail.

Not bad for a hand held image!

Continuing to Learn

Today’s five mile walk was so lovely: the cloud cover and temps in the 50s made it such fun. I didn’t see a ton to catch my eye for photos, but I did need to practice with my new 35mm lens so I stopped on occasion just to play around. Much of what I did isn’t anything workable, but here is a straight out of the camera (SOOC) image, just to share what it can do hand-held and with no post processing. Not bad, really! I will still think of my 100mm as THE lens, but this one seems as if it’ll be a great one for traveling.

Canon EOS R Mirrorless Update

I’m still learning about my new camera. I made very few shots on today’s walk: there just wasn’t a lot that caught my eye. I was using the 100mm macro (which requires a mount adapter), and in order to show you how things are going at the moment here is a photo that included a few ants. (And yes, this camellia really is called the Yuletide.)

Tomorrow, weather permitting, I’ll head out with the 35mm lens I received just today. (Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 IS Macro STM Lens) I’m curious to see how it does with macro work. It’s certainly not the 100mm, but it’s definitely smaller and lighter and might suffice for travel.

I have a new camera!

I finally caved and bought the Canon EOS R Mirrorless. Today and tomorrow are far too busy for me to do much with it, but I at least stepped outside and took five shots very quickly. I still have some learning to do, so I know I’ll be altering things in the menu once I read up and figure it out. Still, I think I’m going to like my new baby!

Below are shots #1-5, straight out of the camera. I’d obviously work on them a good amount (and wouldn’t even shoot them in this way if I had time to think about what I was doing: I just had to make sure the camera was working). It is a dark and rainy day, in case you were wondering. And yes, I shot handheld.

Unfortunately I have no time to do more: students and symphony call for today, and the dentist (getting even more royal) and more symphony tomorrow. I’m not complaining, mind you: I’m happy to be back to healthy me, and work is good!

(This one below is obviously far too dark. If I had time I’d play with it, but I don’t. It’s not a photo I’d print in any case, but I’d be curious to see what happens in post.)

My camellias are showing promise with the buds!

A New Toy Friend

I’ve taken the new “baby” (or smaller sibling maybe?) Canon out and I really do like it. My wonderful “go to” macro lens works on it just fine, and it’ll be a good light travel camera for me. I guess I’m just not a Fujifilm girl. This new friend takes the smaller memory cards, just like my Fuji. Too bad I seem to have misplaced (lost?!) all but one of those. I had so many of them, but the little holder I had for them seems to have disappeared. Rats!

Here’s just a quick shot from today, as I was figuring things out. Nothing big, but still, I like this camera!
