First Shot

While this isn’t a photo I would necessarily print, it’s the first shot. In addition, it’s a tree I only now identified so I’m happy about that. This is a Chilopsis, commonly called the Desert Willow. It’s a member of the Catalpa family, and up until today I just thought of it as a Catalpa tree. Turns out I was wrong. I love learning something new.

Bee with no Sting

As is typical after an opera run, today is “hangover day”. No, I didn’t drink too much, but I feel out of sorts, my brain feels “fuzzy” (as does my vision at the moment), and I feel as if I can’t get much done. Still, I did manage a near seven mile walk, and two loads of laundry have been done. I guess I’m managing … ever so slowly!

I believe this bee is a male carpenter bee. I will check with my niece who knows all about these things, though, to verify! And yes, this is from today’s walk. If what I read is correct, this bee doesn’t have a stinger. I can live with that.

Rose Walk

I took a little walk to the San Jose Heritage Rose Garden again today. I knew there would be less wind and there were a few roses I wanted to have a go at again. When I saw this one I had to spend a bit of time with it. Someone I know from many years ago had posted it before, as there is a note on it in his brother’s memory. I thought he might like to see it is blooming again and looks lovely.

A Wonderful Garden

I’ve known about Nola’s Iris Garden for a while now, but today was my first visit. I can guarantee I’ll be back. The number of iris are overwhelming and the beauty is simply amazing. I made so a many images I can’t even guess how long it will take me to get through them all yet I didn’t manage to see and enjoy every variety. I’m going to guess that is nearly impossible! When I could figure out what the name was I would shoot the variety sign, but sometimes I couldn’t tell which iris belonged to which sign. The one below, though, is named correctly … I’m not pretending … promise!

Wordless On Wednesday

As an explanation … sorry, I have to use words this time … Google+ has a hashtag or two: #wordlessonwednesday   #wordlesswednesday  (I’m never sure which is the “real” one) and we are to post a photo with nothing else. In other words (hah!) it’s wordless. Sometimes it’s just a awesome photo and sometimes something “other”.
