The Camera You Have At Hand

… sometimes the iPhone is the camera at hand. So you use it.

As we were hiking one of my cameras was in my backpack and the other was being brought in by the pack train. I was not hiking quickly so I didn’t ever pull out the backpack camera (my Canon Rebel SL2) to shoot anything: I didn’t want to be TOO far behind! Thus, the iPhone was put to use when I wanted to capture a moment, even while I knew I probably wouldn’t use the images for larger prints. Still, I think some are worth sharing.

End of March, 2016

Whew! I’m nearing the end of March 2016, which means I’m in the desert now. What fun to see all these desert photos: I think I nearly forgot about them when I got home, because I had to get right back to work. I see that I posted a few, but there are so many more that I’m enjoying. This one was just a fun thing to spot. At least for me. Can you see the bird? Maybe I’m just crazy …?

The Small Things

While we were in Mendocino we saw so much grandeur: the expanse of the ocean with its crashing waves, the cliffs, the never-ending sky and, driving further north, the beauty of a forest … sometimes the wonder of it all makes me gasp.

But there are the small things, too. This tiny rock caught my eye and I spent a very brief moment with it.

Devil’s Postpile

Looking back at October 2015 (mostly because I’m sad that I couldn’t see the fall colors there this year and since I was feeling sorry for myself I thought I’d make myself feel even sadder by viewing last year’s photos … I’m silly that way!) I was reminded of some fun places we stopped in the Eastern Sierra. This was one of those places.

I’d never been to Devil’s Postpile before and because we woke rather late in the morning (something G Dan Mitchell doesn’t do if I’m not along … sorry Dan!) he suggested we go there — especially since I’d not been. He has a spectacular image from the location. I don’t. But I still have my memories. And a few photos. Here’s one.
